Lieber Herr Brichta, Ich bewundere Ihre Bestaendigkeit – you are one of the Oak trees of NTV đȘ.
Back to normal life. Ich erlaube mir, meinen kleinen Nachruf zu einem 7 Jaehrigen Ausstieg – vielleicht interessiert es jemanden đ€·ââïž
Mission Accomplished đ Blue Passion â A Captainâs Reflection
My dear friends, Every great voyage begins with a dream. For me, that dream became reality in May 2019 when I purchased SV Blue Passion, a beautiful 58-foot Beneteau Oceanis. At the time, I could never have imagined where she would take me, how many horizons we would chase, how many storms we would weather, and how many extraordinary people would step aboard and become part of this incredible story. What followed was far more than a sailing adventure. It became a journey through life itself.
Together we explored the islands of the Caribbean, from Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Mustique, and Grenada to Guadeloupe, Barbuda, Anguilla, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Martin, and my beloved St. Barth. Some places we visited once, others many times, drawn back by their beauty, their people, and the memories we created there. Then came the years that tested the world.
During the Corona period, while borders closed and uncertainty spread everywhere, Blue Passion kept moving. We crossed oceans under sail alone, trusting the wind, the sea, and ourselves. We faced winds of 65 knots and towering seas of 35 feet. We crossed the Atlantic four times and learned that courage is not the absence of fearâit is continuing despite it. The Atlantic became our teacher. The ocean showed us her beauty, her power, and occasionally her fury. We sailed to the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Cabo Verde, Turks & Caicos, Portugal, Spain, and beyond.
We celebrated victories, found shelter when needed, shared laughter in distant ports, and collected stories that will last a lifetime. We joined races against fleets of more than one hundred yachts. Blue Passion never gave up. Again and again, she carried us proudly among the leading arrivals into Grenada. But the true rewards were never trophies or rankings. The greatest rewards were the moments. A sunrise watch when the sea was perfectly calm. A pod of dolphins appearing from nowhere. A night sky filled with stars so bright it felt as if heaven had come closer to earth. The friendships formed over shared meals, shared watches, and shared adventures.
Then the Mediterranean opened its arms to us. Santorini. Mykonos. Zakynthos. Corfu. Sicily. Malta. Sardinia. Bonifacio. Menorca. The Balearics. The Straits of Messina. Turkey and the Aegean Sea. Each destination offered its own magic. Each anchorage became another chapter in a story that seemed too beautiful to end. And still Blue Passion carried on, reaching Bonaire, Curaçao, Aruba, Santa Marta, Cartagena, and Panama.
Looking back today, I realize that the miles sailed, impressive as they may seem, are not what matter most. What matters are the people. The friendships. The trust. The laughter. The support given during difficult moments. The celebrations shared during the good ones. As Captain of Blue Passion, I was privileged to sail with some of the most remarkable people I have ever known. Many came aboard as guests and left as lifelong friends.
To every person who joined me on this adventure, whether for a day, a week, or an ocean crossing, I offer my deepest gratitude. And above all, I thank the Universe. For the protection it gave us. For the lessons it taught us. For the beauty it allowed us to witness. For the fact that throughout all our adventures, all our challenges, all our crossings and all our storms, we never lost a single soul. That blessing is worth more than any destination ever reached.
Now, at the age of 77, I feel it is time to pause. Not because the spirit of adventure has left meâfar from it. But because every great journey deserves a moment of reflection before the next begins. My next voyage will lead me not across oceans, but inward. I am heading to India for a deep Panchakarma rejuvenation retreat, seeking renewal, balance, and preparation for whatever exciting chapter still lies ahead. Because life, like the sea, never truly stands still. Blue Passionâs mission has been accomplished.
The wake she leaves behind stretches across oceans, continents, and countless beautiful memories. But this is not goodbye. It is simply the end of one magnificent voyage and the beginning of another. Thank you for being part of the adventure. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for helping make these years among the finest of my life. May fair winds always fill your sails, calm seas accompany your journeys, and may your horizons forever remain wide and inviting.
Until we meet again.
Helly Captain, SV Blue Passion

Sehr beeindruckend, lieber Helmut.
